What it calculates and what it does not

The calculator applies the VAT rates in force in Nigeria to add or remove the tax from an amount and break down the base, the tax and the total. The result is indicative: it does not replace the current legislation or professional advice, and it does not cover every exception by product, sector or territory.

How we verify the rates

Each rate comes from the tax authority or the official gazette of the country concerned. The sources are linked on each country page, next to the worked examples, so you can check them.

For the 27 countries of the European Union we also cross-check the rates against the European Commission Taxes in Europe Database (TEDB).

How we set the review date

The review date shown on a page tells you when we last checked its rates against the official source. It only changes when we verify the data again or correct a rate, not when we adjust the design or the wording.

How to report an error

If you spot an outdated rate, a calculation error or a broken link, write to us and tell us the country and the official source that corrects it. We review every report and update the page.
